Tour Overview

ITINERARY

An early departure from your hotel at 7:00 AM and return by 9:00 PM is planned for this immersive exploration of Çanakkale, one of Turkey’s most historically significant regions. Known for its wealth of archaeological treasures and its pivotal role in World War I battles, the area offers a unique blend of ancient and modern history.

Your day begins with a visit to Troy, the legendary ancient city founded around 3000 BCE. Renowned for its strategic and commercial significance, Troy became a coveted target for countless assaults throughout history, immortalized in both myth and reality. Discovered in the 19th century by the pioneering archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, the site reveals layers of history spanning millennia—from its mythological associations with the Trojan War to the groundbreaking excavations that unearthed its secrets. As you walk through the ruins, some dating back to 3500 BCE, your guide will bring the city to life with vivid accounts of its past: the clash of heroes like Achilles and Hector, the cunning strategies of its defenders, and the enduring legacy of its archaeological rediscovery.

Begin your exploration at the Sacrificial Altars, which reflect the religious devotion of Troy’s inhabitants to their gods. From there, marvel at the Bronze age city walls, a testament to ancient engineering and defense. Discover the Houses of Troy, constructed between 3000 BCE and 2500 BCE, offering glimpses into daily life and early architecture. Continue to the ancient agora, once the bustling political, social, and commercial nucleus of the city.

The journey then shifts to the New Troy Museum, a modern architectural marvel opened in 2018 near the archaeological site. Its seven exhibition halls display artifacts from Troy and neighboring ancient cities, weaving together the region’s rich tapestry of history, mythology, and excavation triumphs.

After a lunch break at a local restaurant or lokanta followed by a return drive to Istanbul, where you’ll be dropped off directly at your hotel.

Important Note: Guests should be prepared to walk approximately one mile over uneven terrain at the Troy archaeological site.
